Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Applicable requirements may include ISO 15749 for ship sanitary systems, ISO 9093 for small-craft seacocks where applicable, ISO 8846 for protection against ignition on small craft, and IMO/MARPOL requirements for sewage systems. Product-specific approvals depend on equipment type and vessel design.
Class Approval Approval may be required from DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, ClassNK or another appointed classification society when the plumbing forms part of an approved shipboard sanitary, sewage, freshwater or piping system.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Install according to the vessel piping drawings and the equipment manufacturer's instructions. Use approved marine fittings, correct pipe supports, accessible isolation valves, proper drain slopes, and suitable separation between potable-water and sewage piping. Pressure-test and leak-test before commissioning.
Maintenance Tips Inspect joints, traps, valves, hoses, pumps and supports regularly. Flush sanitary lines with suitable freshwater, remove scale and debris, check vacuum or pressure performance, and replace worn seals, hoses and non-return valves with approved equivalents.
Safety Notes Isolate and depressurize systems before maintenance. Treat sewage piping as a biological hazard and use gloves, eye protection and appropriate disinfection procedures. Prevent cross-connection with potable-water systems and follow vessel lockout, confined-space and hot-work procedures.
