Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification IEC 60034 applies to rotating electrical machines. IEC 60092-301 covers electrical equipment for ships. IEC 60092-504 may apply to special features of marine electrical installations. IEC 60079 applies where motors are installed in hazardous areas.
Class Approval Marine type approval and product certification may be available from DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, ClassNK and RINA, depending on the manufacturer, motor construction, duty and vessel application. Approval must be verified for the exact motor and certificate.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Verify voltage, frequency, power, speed, frame size, mounting arrangement, duty cycle, enclosure rating, ambient temperature and hazardous-area requirements. Align the coupling, provide correct cable glands and grounding, and confirm protection settings before energizing.
Maintenance Tips Inspect bearings, terminal connections, cooling passages, insulation condition, vibration and winding temperature. Keep the motor clean and dry, lubricate bearings only according to the manufacturer schedule, and record insulation-resistance test results.
Safety Notes Isolate, lock out and verify absence of voltage before installation or maintenance. Use suitable overload, short-circuit and earth-fault protection. Do not operate a non-certified motor in a hazardous area, and follow the motor manufacturer and vessel safety procedures.
