Fiber Optic Cables - Electrical, Lighting and Power
Marine fiber-optic cables provide high-bandwidth, EMI-immune communication links for shipboard automation, navigation, control, CCTV and data networks. Fiber optics can transmit light for illumination systems, but they do not conduct electrical power and must be installed separately from power cables.
ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Fiber Optic Cables for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval
Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.
| Applicable Standards & Certification | Applicable requirements may include IEC 60794 for optical-fiber cables, IEC 60092-350 and IEC 60092-360 for shipboard cables and materials, IEC 60332 for flame propagation, IEC 60754 for halogen gas acidity, and IEC 61034 for smoke density. Network installations may also reference ISO/IEC 11801. |
|---|---|
| Class Approval | Approval is product- and installation-specific. Marine cables may be type-approved or accepted by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, RINA or ClassNK when tested against the applicable marine cable rules. Verify the manufacturer's certificate for the exact construction. |
Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information
| Installation Notes | Install using the manufacturer's minimum bend radius, pulling tension and temperature limits. Use approved glands, transit systems, connectors and splice enclosures. Keep optical connectors clean and cap unused ports. Route separately from electrical power cables where required by the vessel installation rules. |
|---|---|
| Maintenance Tips | Inspect cable jackets, glands, transits and connector closures for damage or moisture ingress. Clean connectors with approved lint-free tools. Test attenuation and optical return loss using calibrated optical test equipment after installation and when faults are suspected. |
| Safety Notes | Do not look into an active fiber or connector because invisible laser radiation may be present. Fiber fragments can penetrate skin and eyes; collect them safely and dispose of them correctly. Fiber-optic cables do not transmit electrical power, so associated power circuits require separate approved cabling. |
