Fuses - Electrical, Lighting and Power

Marine fuses protect shipboard electrical, lighting, control and power circuits against overcurrent and short circuits. They are available as cartridge, blade, cylindrical, NH, Class T and other designs, selected by voltage, current, interrupting rating and application.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Fuses for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Common standards include IEC 60269 for low-voltage fuses and UL 248 for supplementary and low-voltage fuses. Marine installations may also require compliance with IEC 60092 and the vessel owner's electrical specification. Ratings must be verified from the manufacturer's datasheet.
Class Approval Classification acceptance is product- and application-specific. Marine-approved installations may involve DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas or ClassNK requirements. A fuse is not automatically class-approved solely because it complies with IEC or UL standards.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Select the fuse type, voltage rating, current rating, interrupting capacity and time-current characteristic for the protected circuit. Install in a correctly rated holder with secure terminals, adequate creepage and clearance, and correct polarity where applicable. Never replace with a higher rating without engineering approval.
Maintenance Tips Inspect fuse holders and terminals for heat damage, corrosion, looseness and discoloration. Verify spare fuses are dry, correctly rated and clearly identified. Investigate repeated fuse operation before replacement, and isolate power before handling whenever practicable.
Safety Notes Use only the specified fuse rating and interrupting capacity. Confirm the circuit is de-energized before replacement and use appropriate PPE. Battery and DC systems can sustain high fault currents; do not bridge, bypass or substitute a fuse with wire or an unsuitable device.
