Weld Gauges - General Stores, Hardware and Tools

Weld gauges are handheld inspection tools used to check weld dimensions and surface profile during shipbuilding, ship repair, and onboard maintenance. They support visual examination of fillet welds, butt welds, reinforcement, undercut, overlap, and misalignment.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Weld Gauges for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Weld gauge use is commonly associated with ISO 17637 for visual testing of fusion-welded joints, ISO 5817 for weld quality levels, ISO 2553 for weld symbols, and applicable AWS welding inspection requirements. The gauge itself is not normally certified to a marine equipment standard.
Class Approval Weld gauges generally do not require separate DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, or ClassNK type approval. Measurements may be used to support inspections performed under the applicable classification society rules and approved welding procedures.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes No permanent installation is required. Clean the weld surface, select the correct gauge reference, place it firmly against the weld, and read the dimension at eye level. Use a calibrated gauge where inspection records are required.
Maintenance Tips Remove weld spatter, dirt, and moisture after use. Check graduations and contact edges for wear or deformation. Store dry in a protective case and verify calibration periodically against suitable reference standards.
Safety Notes Wear gloves and eye protection when inspecting recently welded or sharp-edged surfaces. Confirm the weld and surrounding metal are cool enough to handle. Do not use a damaged gauge or rely on gauge readings instead of the approved inspection procedure.
