Flexible Joints - Pumps, Valves, Piping and Fittings

Flexible joints are installed in marine pump, valve and piping systems to absorb vibration, thermal expansion, equipment movement and minor alignment differences. They may be rubber, elastomer-lined, braided metal or engineered composite construction.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Flexible Joints for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Applicable requirements may include ISO 9001 manufacturing quality systems, EN 14917 for metallic expansion joints where applicable, EN 1092-1 or ASME B16.5 flange dimensions, and relevant piping-system specifications. Certification is product and service dependent.
Class Approval Marine type approval or product acceptance may be available from DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas and ClassNK for specific products or applications. Verify approval, fire rating and hose assembly requirements with the manufacturer and vessel class.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Select the joint for the pipe size, pressure, temperature, movement, medium and flange rating. Install with correct flow direction and alignment, support adjacent piping, and do not use the joint to correct major misalignment. Prevent twisting and follow the manufacturer's bolt-tightening sequence.
Maintenance Tips Inspect periodically for cracking, bulging, corrosion, leakage, braid damage, loose bolts and excessive movement. Check supports and guides, keep the joint free from paint or chemical contamination, and replace it when deterioration or leakage is found.
Safety Notes Isolate, depressurize, drain and cool the piping before removal. Confirm compatibility with the conveyed fluid and temperature. Do not exceed rated pressure or movement limits, and provide guards where rupture or spray could endanger personnel.
