Graphite Gaskets - Pumps, Valves, Piping and Fittings
Graphite gaskets provide sealing for marine pumps, valves, flanges, piping and fittings exposed to heat, pressure and many chemical media. They are available as flexible graphite sheet, graphite-filled spiral-wound gaskets, corrugated graphite gaskets and metal-reinforced graphite rings.
ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Graphite Gaskets for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval
Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.
| Applicable Standards & Certification | Selection may reference ASME B16.20 for spiral-wound and metallic gaskets, ASME B16.21 for nonmetallic flat gaskets, EN 1514-1 for flange gaskets, and ASTM F104 for gasket material classification. Actual compliance depends on the gasket construction and manufacturer certificate. |
|---|---|
| Class Approval | Generic graphite gaskets do not have universal standalone class approval. DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, BV and ClassNK may accept them as part of approved piping, machinery or fire-safety systems when supported by manufacturer documentation and applicable project requirements. |
Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information
| Installation Notes | Confirm flange standard, dimensions, pressure class, temperature, medium and gasket type. Clean and inspect both flange faces, use the specified thickness, center the gasket correctly, and tighten bolts in the recommended cross-pattern using controlled torque. Do not reuse compressed gaskets. |
|---|---|
| Maintenance Tips | Inspect for leakage, oxidation, extrusion, compression damage and flange corrosion during planned maintenance. Retorque only when permitted by the equipment maker and operating procedure. Replace the gasket after dismantling or whenever sealing surfaces are disturbed. |
| Safety Notes | Isolate, depressurize, drain and cool the system before replacement. Wear appropriate protection when handling graphite dust and contaminated gaskets. Verify chemical compatibility, bolt loading and temperature limits; graphite can oxidize at elevated temperatures in air. |
