Knife Gate Valves - Pumps, Valves, Piping and Fittings

Knife gate valves are linear isolation valves with a sharp-edged gate designed to control liquids containing solids, sludge, fibers, or suspended matter. In marine systems they are used mainly in wastewater, sewage, sludge, ballast-treatment, and drainage piping.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Knife Gate Valves for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Applicable standards may include MSS SP-81 for industrial knife gate valves, ISO 5208 or EN 12266-1 for pressure testing, and API 598 where specified by the manufacturer or purchaser. Actual compliance depends on valve design and service.
Class Approval Class approval is not universal for knife gate valves. DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, and ClassNK acceptance or type approval may apply to specific valve designs and marine applications; verify the individual certificate and service restrictions.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Confirm flow direction, face-to-face dimensions, flange drilling, pressure rating, seat material, and actuator clearance before installation. Install with the valve stem correctly aligned and support heavy actuators independently. Avoid using the valve as a permanent throttling device unless approved for that service.
Maintenance Tips Inspect packing, gland leakage, seat condition, fasteners, and actuator operation periodically. Exercise the valve according to the vessel maintenance plan. Remove deposits from the gate and seat area, and lubricate stems or moving parts only with manufacturer-approved lubricant.
Safety Notes Isolate, depressurize, drain, and lock out the piping system before maintenance. Confirm the valve is suitable for the fluid, temperature, pressure, and corrosive environment. Do not place hands near the gate or operate the valve while personnel are exposed to the line.
