Standards, Certifications & Class Approval
Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.
| Applicable Standards & Certification | Applicable references may include EN 1514-1 for flange gasket dimensions, EN 681-1 for elastomeric seals in water applications, ISO 3601 for O-rings, and ASTM material or testing standards. Selection must match the piping and equipment specification. |
|---|---|
| Class Approval | DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas and ClassNK may accept or approve gaskets when supplied as part of an approved piping, valve or machinery system. Approval is product- and application-specific and is not universal for all rubber gaskets. |
Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information
| Installation Notes | Verify gasket material, dimensions, flange rating, bolt pattern and service compatibility. Clean and inspect mating surfaces, center the gasket correctly, and tighten bolts progressively in the specified cross-pattern and torque sequence. Do not reuse compressed or damaged gaskets unless specifically permitted. |
|---|---|
| Maintenance Tips | Inspect for leakage, hardening, cracking, swelling, extrusion and permanent compression set during overhauls. Replace seals during planned maintenance or whenever dismantled if reuse is not approved. Store flat, clean, cool and away from sunlight, ozone, oils and chemicals. |
| Safety Notes | Isolate, depressurize, drain and cool the system before replacement. Confirm the gasket is compatible with the fluid, temperature and pressure. Use suitable PPE and follow shipboard lockout/tagout procedures. Never compensate for incorrect flange alignment or damaged sealing faces with an unsuitable gasket. |
