Spiral Wound Gaskets - Pumps, Valves, Piping and Fittings

Spiral wound gaskets are metallic sealing elements used between flanges on marine pumps, valves, piping and fittings. They consist of formed metal windings with graphite, PTFE or other filler, selected for pressure, temperature and fluid compatibility.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Spiral Wound Gaskets for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification ASME B16.20 covers metallic gaskets for pipe flanges, including spiral wound gaskets. Dimensions are commonly selected to ASME B16.5, ASME B16.47, EN 1514-2 or applicable JIS flange standards. API 601 may apply to petroleum and process piping applications.
Class Approval Classification approval is application- and manufacturer-specific rather than universal. DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas and ClassNK may accept or approve gasket materials and piping assemblies when required by the vessel rules, approved drawings and service specification.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Confirm flange standard, size, pressure class, winding material, filler, service fluid and temperature. Clean and inspect flange faces, use a new gasket, align the flanges without forcing, and tighten bolts in a controlled cross-pattern to the specified torque. Do not reuse or apply sealant unless specifically approved.
Maintenance Tips Inspect for external leakage during operation and scheduled rounds. Replace the gasket after flange disturbance or whenever leakage occurs. Check flange alignment, surface condition, bolt condition and tightening procedure before replacement.
Safety Notes Isolate, depressurize, drain and cool the system before removing a gasket. Verify that the gasket material is compatible with the fluid and temperature. Follow vessel procedures, approved torque values and applicable hazardous-area and hot-work controls.
