Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Relevant requirements may include API 622 and API 624 for valve-packing fugitive-emission qualification, ISO 15848-1 for industrial valve fugitive emissions, and applicable manufacturer material certificates. Requirements depend on service and equipment specification.
Class Approval Valve packing is generally supplied as an equipment component rather than universally class-approved material. Acceptance may be subject to DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, or ClassNK requirements for the installed valve, pump, and piping system.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Verify packing material, cross-section, temperature, pressure, and fluid compatibility. Remove old packing, clean the stuffing box, install rings with staggered joints, and tighten the gland evenly to the manufacturer's guidance. Allow controlled break-in leakage where applicable.
Maintenance Tips Inspect for leakage, overheating, shaft or stem wear, and gland loosening. Adjust compression gradually and evenly. Replace packing when leakage cannot be controlled or when the shaft, stem, or stuffing box is damaged.
Safety Notes Isolate, depressurize, drain, and cool the system before removing packing. Follow lockout and tagout procedures. Use suitable gloves and eye protection, and verify compatibility when handling hot fluids, chemicals, fuel, or asbestos-contaminated legacy packing.
