Seals - Bearings, Packing and Jointing

Marine seals, bearing materials, gland packing and jointing products are used to prevent leakage, reduce friction and protect propulsion, pumps, valves and piping systems. Selection depends on shaft speed, pressure, temperature, fluid compatibility and classification requirements.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Seals for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Applicable standards depend on product type. Common references include EN 1514 for flange gaskets, ASME B16.21 for nonmetallic flat gaskets, ISO 7483 for gasket dimensions and ISO 9001 quality systems. Manufacturer data sheets define material and service limits.
Class Approval Marine applications may require approval or acceptance from DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, ClassNK or another IACS member. Approval is product-, vessel- and application-specific; not all seals, bearings or packing products are class-approved.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Verify dimensions, shaft condition, flange rating, material compatibility and operating limits before installation. Clean mating surfaces, use correct compression or gland adjustment, and follow the manufacturer's installation instructions. Do not reuse damaged gaskets or seals.
Maintenance Tips Inspect for leakage, wear, overheating, abnormal vibration and loss of compression. Check gland packing adjustment and monitor bearing clearances where applicable. Replace seals, packing and jointing materials at recommended overhaul intervals or when deterioration is found.
Safety Notes Isolate, depressurize, drain and cool equipment before replacement. Use appropriate personal protective equipment and follow confined-space, lockout/tagout and hot-work procedures. Confirm chemical compatibility and never exceed the product's rated pressure, temperature or speed.
