Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Applicable requirements commonly include IEC 60601-1 and IEC 60601-2-4 for defibrillator safety and performance, plus regional medical-device requirements such as EU MDR or US FDA authorization. Certification depends on the exact model and market.
Class Approval Individual AEDs are not universally type-approved by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, BV, or ClassNK. Vessel acceptance normally depends on flag-state medical requirements, company procedures, equipment certification, environmental suitability, and approved installation arrangements.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Mount in an accessible, clearly marked location near the medical room or designated emergency station. Use a secure marine mounting cabinet or bracket, protect from excessive heat, moisture, vibration, and salt spray, and keep operating instructions with the unit. Follow the manufacturer's electrical, storage, and electrode-placement requirements.
Maintenance Tips Perform scheduled checks in accordance with the manufacturer and vessel SMS. Verify readiness indicators, battery expiry, electrode-pad expiry, accessories, cleanliness, cabinet condition, and self-test records. Replace batteries and pads before expiry and after use, and maintain documented inspection records.
Safety Notes Only trained personnel should operate the defibrillator and follow the device prompts and approved shipboard medical procedures. Do not touch the casualty during rhythm analysis or shock delivery, keep oxygen sources clear of the shock area, and confirm that no one is in contact with the casualty before delivering a shock. Defibrillators do not replace emergency medical evacuation or professional medical care.
