Air Filters - Refrigeration and HVAC

Air filters used in marine refrigeration and HVAC systems remove dust, salt particles, fibers and other airborne contaminants from supply, return and recirculated air. They are commonly supplied as flat-panel, pleated, bag, metal-mesh or HEPA filters.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Air Filters for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Commonly specified to ISO 16890 for general HVAC filters. HEPA filters may be classified to EN 1822 or ISO 29463. ASHRAE 52.2 MERV ratings are also used, particularly for North American equipment. Exact compliance depends on the filter design and manufacturer documentation.
Class Approval Individual replacement air filters are generally not separately type-approved by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, BV or ClassNK. Marine HVAC systems may require class approval, fire performance documentation or material certificates depending on vessel rules and installation location.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Verify dimensions, airflow direction, filter grade, pressure-drop limit, gasket arrangement and frame material against the HVAC or refrigeration unit manual. Install with the airflow arrow pointing in the correct direction and ensure the filter seats evenly without bypass gaps.
Maintenance Tips Inspect filters at scheduled intervals and record differential pressure where gauges or sensors are fitted. Replace disposable filters when dirty or when the manufacturer's final pressure-drop limit is reached. Clean reusable metal filters using approved methods and dry them completely before refitting.
Safety Notes Isolate the fan, air-handling unit or refrigeration equipment before opening the filter section. Use appropriate respiratory and eye protection when handling contaminated filters. Dispose of used filters according to onboard waste procedures and do not operate the system without the required filter installed.
