Refrigerants - Refrigeration and HVAC

Refrigerants are working fluids used in marine refrigeration, provision plants, air-conditioning, chillers and refrigerated containers. Selection depends on system design, safety classification, temperature range, environmental regulations and equipment manufacturer approval.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Refrigerants for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Relevant references include ISO 817 for refrigerant designation and safety classification, ASHRAE 34 for designation and classification, EN 378 for refrigeration-system safety, and applicable F-gas or ozone-protection regulations. Product purity should meet the manufacturer's stated specification.
Class Approval Classification societies generally approve the complete refrigeration or HVAC installation rather than the refrigerant independently. Acceptance may involve DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas or ClassNK, subject to vessel rules, refrigerant safety class and applicable flag-state requirements.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Confirm the refrigerant designation, charge quantity, oil type, pressure rating and equipment manufacturer's approval. Recover and evacuate the system correctly, use clean dedicated hoses and charge blends using the method specified by the manufacturer. Do not mix refrigerants.
Maintenance Tips Check for leaks, operating pressures, superheat, subcooling and abnormal temperature changes. Inspect hoses, valves, insulation and condenser cleanliness. Maintain accurate refrigerant records and recover refrigerant before opening the system.
Safety Notes Use trained refrigeration personnel, suitable gloves and eye protection. Prevent liquid refrigerant contact with skin and eyes, provide ventilation, and avoid ignition sources for A2L or A3 refrigerants. Never vent refrigerant; follow SDS, vessel procedures and applicable environmental regulations.
