Refrigerant Leak Detectors - Refrigeration and HVAC

Portable electronic refrigerant leak detectors are used aboard ships to locate leaks in refrigeration plants, provision rooms, air-conditioning systems, chillers and HVAC pipework. They detect halogenated refrigerants using heated-diode, infrared or semiconductor sensor technology.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Refrigerant Leak Detectors for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Applicable requirements vary by model. Common conformity markings include CE and RoHS. EN 14624 is a relevant performance standard for portable refrigerant leak detectors; verify the manufacturer's declaration and the refrigerant compatibility before procurement.
Class Approval Portable leak detectors are generally not supplied with independent DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, BV or ClassNK type approval. Where required for shipboard use, verify flag-state, vessel-class and hazardous-area requirements with the manufacturer and attending class society.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes No permanent installation is normally required. Charge or fit the approved battery, install the correct sensor or filter, switch on in clean air, allow warm-up, and verify operation using the manufacturer's test method. Do not use in atmospheres outside the detector's approved rating.
Maintenance Tips Perform functional checks before use, keep the probe and sensor inlet clean, replace filters and sensors at the manufacturer's intervals, inspect batteries and cables, and maintain calibration or bump-test records. Store the instrument dry and protected from refrigerant contamination.
Safety Notes Follow the detector manual and the refrigerant safety data sheet. Ventilate enclosed spaces and use gas monitoring appropriate to the refrigerant and space. Keep ignition sources away from flammable refrigerants, use suitable intrinsically safe equipment where required, and do not treat the detector as a substitute for oxygen or toxicity monitoring.
