Aluminum Anodes - Hose Couplings and Petroleum Products

Aluminum sacrificial anodes provide galvanic corrosion protection for ship hulls, tanks, seawater systems, and offshore structures. They are commonly manufactured from aluminum-zinc-indium alloys and are selected according to seawater exposure, installation method, and required service life.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Aluminum Anodes for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification MIL-DTL-18001 applies to aluminum alloy sacrificial anodes for marine service. Manufacturer material certificates, chemical composition, dimensions, and electrochemical test reports may also be required. Hose-coupling standards such as EN 14420 are separate and do not certify anodes.
Class Approval Individual anodes are not universally class-approved. Acceptance may be subject to DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, BV, or ClassNK requirements, vessel specifications, and manufacturer documentation. Confirm approval requirements with the attending classification society.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Select anode size and quantity from the cathodic-protection design. Install on clean, electrically continuous steel with the specified bolts, welds, or straps. Do not paint the active anode surface, and verify electrical continuity after installation. Keep anodes clear of marine hose couplings and moving equipment.
Maintenance Tips Inspect during dry docking or tank entry, record remaining anode dimensions, and replace when approximately 50 percent consumed or when required by the protection design. Remove marine growth and loose scale without damaging the anode or mounting connection.
Safety Notes Follow confined-space, tank-entry, gas-free, and hot-work procedures. Petroleum-product tanks must be isolated, cleaned, tested, and declared safe before welding or replacing anodes. Use approved tools and avoid creating sparks in hazardous areas.
