Cylinder Oils - Hose Couplings and Petroleum Products

Marine cylinder oils are high-alkalinity lubricants for slow-speed, two-stroke diesel engine cylinders. They neutralize acid formed during combustion and reduce liner and piston-ring wear when matched to fuel sulfur content and engine-maker requirements.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Cylinder Oils for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Cylinder oils are normally supplied against manufacturer product specifications and engine-builder recommendations. Common lubricant test references include ASTM D2896 for base number and ISO 13739 for lubricant handling guidance; ISO 8217 applies to marine fuels, not cylinder oils.
Class Approval Cylinder oils are generally not classification-society-approved products. Acceptance is normally based on engine manufacturer recommendations, oil supplier approvals, and onboard condition-monitoring results. DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, BV, and ClassNK requirements may apply to the vessel system rather than the oil itself.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Confirm the required base number and feed rate from the engine maker and fuel sulfur content. Store sealed in a clean, dry area and use dedicated, clearly identified transfer equipment. Do not mix products without supplier approval.
Maintenance Tips Monitor drain-oil analysis, piston-undercrown inspection, liner wear, scavenge-space deposits, and feed rate. Keep tanks and lubricator lines clean, check for leakage, and rotate stock according to supplier guidance.
Safety Notes Use safety glasses, gloves, and protective clothing when handling. Avoid skin contact, oil mist inhalation, and ignition sources. Clean spills promptly and dispose of used oil through approved waste-management channels.
