Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Electronic navigational charts are generally produced according to IHO S-57 or S-101 standards and used in IMO-compliant ECDIS. SOLAS Chapter V, Regulation 19 defines carriage requirements. Paper charts should be official and maintained with the issuing hydrographic office's corrections.
Class Approval Charts themselves are normally issued or authorized by national hydrographic offices rather than individually class-approved. The ECDIS equipment used to display ENCs may be type-approved by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas or ClassNK.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes For paper charts, select the correct edition and apply all applicable corrections before use. For ENCs, install through the approved ECDIS or chart management system, verify permits, licensing and cell coverage, and confirm the latest update status.
Maintenance Tips Keep paper charts corrected using official Notices to Mariners and replace superseded editions. Apply ENC updates promptly, maintain valid permits, back up chart licenses and verify chart status before each voyage.
Safety Notes Use official charts and current corrections only. Charts do not replace visual navigation, radar, position fixing or navigational warnings. Confirm that ECDIS, backup arrangements and chart carriage comply with SOLAS, flag-state and company requirements.
