Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Marine communication and navigation antennas commonly follow IEC 60945 for maritime navigation and radiocommunication equipment, IEC 61162 for maritime digital interfaces, and applicable IMO/GMDSS and Inmarsat type-approval requirements. Exact certification depends on model and service.
Class Approval Class acceptance or type approval may be available from DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, and ClassNK for specific models or installations. Approval is model-, service-, flag-, and vessel-configuration-dependent and must be verified from the manufacturer's certificate.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Install on a clear, elevated location with an unobstructed view of the sky and satellite arc. Maintain separation from radar, high-power transmitters, exhaust heat, and magnetic interference. Use the manufacturer's mounting, grounding, cable, connector, and compass-safe-distance requirements. Configure NMEA or Ethernet interfaces and verify satellite lock after commissioning.
Maintenance Tips Inspect the radome, mounting bolts, pedestal, cable glands, connectors, and bonding periodically. Remove salt deposits with fresh water and mild detergent. Check for water ingress, corrosion, abnormal tracking noise, and degraded signal levels. Perform firmware updates and functional tests according to the manufacturer and vessel maintenance schedule.
Safety Notes Do not stand near an active transmitting antenna or enter its RF exclusion zone. Isolate electrical power before servicing and follow lockout procedures. Use certified marine cables, proper bonding, overcurrent protection, and lightning protection. Confirm antenna clearances and safe access before working aloft.
