Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Marine terminals commonly comply with IMO GMDSS requirements where applicable, IEC 60945 for maritime navigation and radiocommunication equipment, and relevant IEC 61097 GMDSS standards. Exact approvals depend on terminal model, service type and installation configuration.
Class Approval Type approval and installation approval may be available from DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, ClassNK and other recognized classification societies. Approval is model-specific and should be verified from the manufacturer's current certificate.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Install the antenna with an unobstructed view of the satellite path and adequate separation from radar, VHF and other transmitting antennas. Mount the below-deck unit in a dry, ventilated location, provide protected power and grounding, and configure the terminal with the vessel identity and authorized service credentials.
Maintenance Tips Inspect the antenna radome, mounting hardware, coaxial cables, connectors and grounding periodically. Check terminal logs, GPS position, distress functions and service registration during scheduled communications tests. Keep software and firmware updated according to the manufacturer instructions.
Safety Notes Only trained personnel should install, commission or test the terminal. Follow RF exposure exclusion zones and do not work near an energized transmitting antenna. GMDSS equipment must remain operational and tested in accordance with the vessel's safety management system and applicable regulations.
