TV Antennas - Navigation and Communication

Marine TV antennas receive terrestrial VHF/UHF television broadcasts aboard ships, yachts, and offshore vessels. They are entertainment receivers and should not be confused with VHF/MF/HF, AIS, radar, or GMDSS communication antennas.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply TV Antennas for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Applicable requirements may include CE marking, EMC compliance, RoHS, and the relevant radio or electrical regulations for the installation location. IEC 60945 is generally associated with marine navigation and radiocommunication equipment and is not automatically applicable to every TV antenna.
Class Approval Class approval is not normally required for standalone passenger or crew entertainment TV antennas. Approval may depend on vessel specification, flag administration, installation location, and whether the equipment forms part of a regulated communication or navigation system.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Mount vertically with clear exposure to the horizon and away from radar scanners, transmitting antennas, exhaust outlets, and major metal obstructions. Use marine-grade coaxial cable, sealed deck penetrations, correct polarity, and a suitable 12/24 VDC supply.
Maintenance Tips Inspect the radome, mounting bolts, cable glands, connectors, and coaxial cable for corrosion, water ingress, and mechanical damage. Clean the housing with fresh water and verify signal quality and amplifier supply voltage periodically.
Safety Notes Do not install or service near active transmitting antennas or during heavy weather without appropriate precautions. Isolate electrical power before servicing. TV antennas must not be used as substitutes for GMDSS, VHF, AIS, radar, or other safety-critical navigation equipment.
