Routers - IT and Communication Equipment

Marine routers provide secure IP connectivity between vessel networks, onboard automation systems, crew networks, shore offices and satellite or cellular communication links. They are commonly designed for redundant, remote and harsh-environment shipboard operation.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Routers for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Marine suitability and certification are model- and installation-specific. Relevant requirements may include IEC 60945 for maritime navigation and radiocommunication equipment, IEC 60533 for electromagnetic compatibility on ships, and IEC 60092-504 for special electrical features of shipboard equipment. Verify the manufacturer certificate and vessel class requirements.
Class Approval Class approval is not universal for commercial IT routers. Where required, confirm product-specific approval with DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas or ClassNK before installation. Vessel network equipment may also need flag-state, owner and type-approval compliance.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Install in a dry, ventilated cabinet protected from salt spray, vibration, condensation and excessive heat. Use the specified DC supply, circuit protection, grounding and surge protection. Fit approved antennas and maintain separation from sensitive navigation and radio equipment.
Maintenance Tips Inspect connectors, antennas, cables and cabinet ventilation periodically. Review alarms, logs, firmware and configuration backups. Test VPN operation, cellular or satellite failover and network redundancy during planned maintenance.
Safety Notes Isolate and lock out electrical power before wiring or servicing. Follow radio-frequency exposure and antenna installation limits. Use marine-rated cables, glands and fuses, and do not connect the router to safety-critical control networks without approved segregation and cybersecurity controls.
