Camshafts - Main Engine and Propulsion

Marine engine camshafts synchronize fuel injection and valve or exhaust-valve actuation with crankshaft rotation. They are precision-engineered, engine-specific components used mainly in mechanically controlled two-stroke and four-stroke propulsion engines.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Camshafts for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Manufacture and inspection normally follow the engine OEM drawing, material specification and approved quality plan. Applicable controls may include class-approved material certification, dimensional inspection, hardness testing and magnetic-particle or ultrasonic examination under recognized ISO procedures.
Class Approval Camshafts may be manufactured or repaired under the approved engine design and survey requirements of DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas or ClassNK. Acceptance is engine-, vessel- and repair-specific; a camshaft is not universally class-approved as a standalone item.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Confirm the exact engine type, camshaft section marks and OEM part numbers. Check journals, bearings, couplings, timing marks, backlash, clearances and fastener tightening values against the engine manual. Verify injection and valve timing after installation.
Maintenance Tips Inspect cam lobes, rollers, journals and bearings for pitting, scoring, cracks and abnormal wear. Verify lubrication flow, timing, clearances and coupling security. Record wear measurements and perform OEM-specified nondestructive testing during major overhauls.
Safety Notes Isolate starting air, fuel, electrical power and turning gear controls before work. Secure the crankshaft against unintended movement and use certified lifting equipment. Camshaft sections are heavy precision components; protect machined surfaces and follow OEM lifting procedures.
