Thrust Bearings - Main Engine and Propulsion

Marine thrust bearings absorb axial propeller thrust and transmit it to the vessel structure while allowing the propulsion shaft to rotate. Main propulsion systems commonly use hydrodynamic tilting-pad thrust blocks or spherical roller thrust bearings.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Thrust Bearings for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Rolling-bearing dimensions and ratings may follow ISO 104 and ISO 281. Hydrodynamic propulsion thrust bearings are engineered to manufacturer specifications and applicable flag-state and classification-society shafting rules.
Class Approval Propulsion thrust-bearing arrangements may be reviewed or certified by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, ClassNK or other vessel class societies. Approval is project-specific and depends on load calculations, lubrication, monitoring and shaft-line design.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Mount on a rigid, accurately aligned foundation. Verify shaft-line alignment, axial clearance, pad orientation, oil supply, cooling flow and sensor settings against the manufacturer-approved drawing. Flush lubrication piping before commissioning.
Maintenance Tips Monitor bearing metal temperature, oil pressure, flow, cleanliness and vibration. Analyze lubricant periodically and inspect pads, collars, clearances and filters at scheduled overhauls. Investigate abnormal temperature or metallic debris immediately.
Safety Notes Isolate and lock out the engine, shaft turning gear and lubrication system before work. Do not operate without confirmed oil flow and cooling. Use approved lifting arrangements because thrust blocks and collars are heavy precision components.
