Connecting Rods - Main Engine and Propulsion

Connecting rods transmit combustion force between the piston or crosshead and crankshaft in marine propulsion engines. They are precision-forged, highly loaded components manufactured and matched to specific engine types and serial configurations.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Connecting Rods for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Manufacture, material traceability, heat treatment, dimensional inspection and nondestructive testing must comply with the engine maker's approved drawings and applicable classification-society machinery rules. Material certificates are normally required; exact EN, ASTM or maker specifications vary by engine.
Class Approval Connecting rods are normally accepted as part of the class-approved engine design rather than by standalone type approval. New or repaired parts may require maker documentation, material certificates, NDT records and survey acceptance by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas or ClassNK.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Confirm engine model, serial number, rod identification, mass group and mating parts. Check bearing clearances, alignment and journal condition. Use specified lubricants, calibrated hydraulic or torque tools, new locking parts and the maker's tightening sequence.
Maintenance Tips Inspect for cracks, fretting, corrosion, distortion and overheating. Measure big-end and small-end bores, bearing clearances and bolt elongation. Perform magnetic-particle testing at maker-specified intervals and renew bearings, bushes and fasteners at prescribed limits.
Safety Notes Stop and isolate the engine, engage turning-gear interlocks and prevent unintended rotation. Support the piston, crosshead and rod with certified lifting equipment. Connecting rods are heavy matched components; never reuse damaged fasteners or exceed maker tightening limits.
