Cylinder Liners - Main Engine and Propulsion

Cylinder liners form the replaceable running surface for pistons in marine propulsion engines. They retain combustion pressure, transfer heat to the cooling system, and provide controlled lubrication while protecting the engine block or cylinder jacket from wear.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Cylinder Liners for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Manufacture, dimensions, material properties, surface finish and inspection must comply with the engine maker's approved drawings and technical specifications. Material and inspection certificates may be supplied to EN 10204 when contractually required.
Class Approval Replacement liners for classed main engines are generally subject to the vessel's classification rules, OEM acceptance, material traceability and survey requirements. Relevant societies may include DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas and ClassNK.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Confirm the exact engine type, bore, drawing number and oversize status. Clean and inspect seating surfaces, renew specified seals, verify liner protrusion and alignment, tighten components to OEM procedures, and pressure-test the cooling space before operation.
Maintenance Tips Measure bore diameter, ovality, taper and wear at OEM-defined intervals. Inspect for scuffing, polishing, corrosion, cracks and blocked lubrication points. Maintain correct cylinder-oil feed rate, cooling-water condition and piston-ring condition.
Safety Notes Stop, isolate and lock out the engine before work. Drain and depressurize cooling and lubrication systems, use certified lifting equipment and liner lifting tools, secure suspended loads, and follow OEM limits for reuse, honing or replacement.
