Cylinder Covers - Main Engine and Propulsion
Cylinder covers, also called cylinder heads, close the top of marine engine cylinders and contain combustion pressure. They incorporate cooling passages and mount components such as fuel injectors, starting-air valves, indicator cocks, safety valves, and gas-exchange valves as applicable.
ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Cylinder Covers for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval
Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.
| Applicable Standards & Certification | Cylinder covers are manufactured to the engine maker's drawings, material specifications, dimensional tolerances, and pressure-test requirements. Material certification commonly follows EN 10204 Type 3.1 or 3.2 when specified. No universal interchangeable ISO, DIN, ANSI, or API cylinder-cover standard applies. |
|---|---|
| Class Approval | Acceptance may be required by the vessel's classification society, including DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, or ClassNK. Requirements depend on engine criticality, replacement-part origin, material traceability, inspection, pressure testing, and the applicable class rules. |
Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information
| Installation Notes | Confirm the exact engine type, bore, design version, and cylinder position. Clean and inspect mating faces, renew specified seals, verify valve and injector fit, and tighten hydraulic nuts or studs in the OEM sequence to the prescribed load. Pressure-test cooling spaces where required. |
|---|---|
| Maintenance Tips | Inspect for combustion-face cracking, burning, corrosion, cooling-space deposits, leakage, distorted sealing faces, and worn valve or injector seats. Clean cooling passages and record crack-test and dimensional results. Observe OEM overhaul intervals and rejection limits. |
| Safety Notes | Stop and isolate the engine, engage turning-gear interlocks, shut off starting air, and drain and depressurize cooling systems before removal. Use certified lifting tools and the designated lifting points. The cover is heavy and may retain hot fluids or trapped pressure. |
