Cutting Discs - Welding and Fabrication

Cutting discs are thin bonded abrasive wheels used for cutting steel, stainless steel, aluminum and other metals during ship repair, structural fabrication, pipework and onboard maintenance. Selection depends on material, diameter, thickness, arbor size and grinder speed rating.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Cutting Discs for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Commonly manufactured and marked to EN 12413 for bonded abrasive products. ANSI B7.1 and ISO 525 may also apply depending on manufacturer and market. Disc markings normally include dimensions, material suitability, expiry date and maximum operating speed.
Class Approval Cutting discs are generally not individually type-approved by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, BV or ClassNK. Shipyards and owners normally require manufacturer conformity, EN 12413 compliance and documented inspection under their safety procedures.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Verify disc type, material suitability, diameter, arbor size and maximum RPM before use. Inspect for cracks or damage, fit the correct guard and flange, and mount without forcing or overtightening. Use only on a compatible grinder.
Maintenance Tips Store dry and away from heat, moisture, oil and chemicals in the original packaging. Do not use discs past their expiry date or those dropped, cracked, warped or otherwise damaged. Keep discs flat and prevent impact during handling.
Safety Notes Wear eye and face protection, hearing protection, gloves, safety footwear and suitable flame-resistant clothing. Use the guard and side handle, secure the workpiece, avoid side loading, and keep personnel clear of sparks and fragments. Follow the grinder and abrasive-wheel manufacturer instructions.
