Welding Earth Clamps - Welding and Fabrication

Welding earth clamps provide a low-resistance return path between the welding circuit and the workpiece during shipboard welding, repair, and fabrication. They are typically made from copper-plated steel or brass with a spring-loaded jaw and insulated handle.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Welding Earth Clamps for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Welding cable coupling devices may be designed in accordance with IEC 60974-12 / EN 60974-12. The clamp should be suitable for the welding machine rating and comply with the manufacturer's electrical and safety requirements.
Class Approval Individual welding earth clamps are not normally type-approved by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, BV, or ClassNK. Their use onboard classed vessels is generally controlled through approved welding procedures, equipment inspection, and yard or vessel safety requirements.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Select a clamp rated for the welding current and cable size. Attach it directly to clean, bare metal as close as practical to the weld, using a properly crimped cable lug. Keep the return path short and avoid painted, rusty, wet, or contaminated contact surfaces.
Maintenance Tips Inspect jaws, spring pressure, cable connection, insulation, and contact surfaces before use. Remove oxidation and weld spatter, tighten loose connections, and replace clamps with overheating, cracked insulation, weak springs, or damaged jaws.
Safety Notes Disconnect the welding power source before connecting or removing the clamp. Do not use the vessel hull, piping, fuel lines, or grounding conductors as an uncontrolled return path. Prevent contact with combustible materials and follow shipyard hot-work, electrical isolation, and permit requirements.
