Welding Wires - Welding and Fabrication

Marine welding wires are consumable filler metals used with GMAW/MIG and FCAW processes for shipbuilding, structural fabrication, piping, repairs, and maintenance. Selection depends on base steel grade, welding position, process, shielding gas, and required classification approval.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Welding Wires for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Common standards include AWS A5.18 for solid carbon-steel GMAW wires, AWS A5.20 for carbon-steel flux-cored wires, and EN ISO 14341 for solid wire electrodes. Product certificates and batch traceability should be verified for the required marine application.
Class Approval Marine-approved welding consumables may be certified or type-approved by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, ClassNK, or other societies. Approval is product-, grade-, diameter-, position-, and welding-condition-specific; verify the current certificate before use.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Match the wire classification to the base material and approved welding procedure. Set wire diameter, polarity, current, voltage, travel speed, and shielding gas according to the manufacturer's data sheet and qualified WPS. Keep wire, liner, contact tip, and gas system clean and dry.
Maintenance Tips Store unopened wire in a dry, controlled environment. Protect opened spools from moisture, salt contamination, oil, and dust. Inspect for rust or surface damage, replace worn contact tips and liners, and maintain proper shielding-gas flow and regulator condition.
Safety Notes Use qualified welders and an approved WPS. Wear a welding helmet, flame-resistant clothing, gloves, and suitable respiratory protection. Provide ventilation and fire watch, isolate fuel or gas hazards, and follow the vessel's hot-work permit and confined-space procedures.
