Welding Electrode Holders - Welding and Fabrication

Manual welding electrode holders, also called welding stingers, are insulated hand tools used to grip coated electrodes and conduct welding current during ship repair, fabrication, and onboard maintenance. They are selected according to electrode diameter, welding current, duty cycle, and cable connection.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Welding Electrode Holders for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification IEC 60974-11 and EN 60974-11 specify requirements for manual arc-welding electrode holders. Product conformity should be verified from the manufacturer because ratings and applicable national standards vary.
Class Approval Electrode holders are not normally individually class-approved. Shipyard welding work is generally controlled through approved welding procedures, qualified welders, and classification requirements from DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, BV, or ClassNK.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Select a holder with a current rating exceeding the intended welding current and compatible with the welding cable connector. Secure the cable firmly, inspect insulation, and ensure the electrode is clamped without damaging the holder jaws.
Maintenance Tips Keep the holder clean and dry. Inspect the handle, insulation, jaws, cable lug, and strain relief before use. Replace holders with cracked insulation, loose connections, burned jaws, or excessive overheating.
Safety Notes De-energize the welding power source before changing the holder or repairing the cable. Wear approved welding PPE, keep the holder away from water and grounded metal when not in use, and do not use a holder with damaged insulation.
