Ballast Water Treatment Filters - Container Ship Specific

Automatic self-cleaning screen filters remove sediment and organisms before the main ballast-water treatment stage. On container ships, they are selected to match ballast-pump flow, pressure, water quality and the vessel's type-approved BWMS.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Ballast Water Treatment Filters for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Filters must form part of a BWMS type-approved under the IMO Ballast Water Management Convention and the IMO BWMS Code. US-trading vessels may require a system approved under USCG 46 CFR 162.060. Applicable piping, electrical and pressure-equipment standards depend on installation.
Class Approval Approval is normally granted to the complete ballast-water management system rather than the filter alone. Depending on the selected BWMS and vessel project, review or approval may involve DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, ClassNK, RINA or other flag-recognized societies.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Install upstream of the treatment unit with isolation and bypass arrangements only as permitted by the approved BWMS design. Match flange rating, flow direction, design pressure and ballast-pump capacity. Provide backwash discharge piping, differential-pressure instruments and maintenance access.
Maintenance Tips Inspect screens, seals, backwash nozzles and actuators at maker-specified intervals. Verify differential-pressure readings and automatic cleaning cycles. Remove sediment, check for corrosion or screen damage, and use only approved replacement elements.
Safety Notes Isolate, depressurize and drain the filter before opening. Lock out pumps and electrical or pneumatic actuators. Treat retained sediment and backwash water according to the approved ballast-water management plan and applicable port-discharge requirements.
