Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Complete ballast water management systems must comply with the IMO Ballast Water Management Convention and BWMS Code. Systems used in United States waters require USCG type approval under 46 CFR 162.060. Replacement lamps must match the approved system configuration and OEM specification.
Class Approval Approval normally applies to the complete ballast water management system rather than a standalone lamp. Depending on the system and vessel, type approval or certification may involve DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas or ClassNK. Verify the vessel's approved equipment documentation.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Isolate and lock out electrical power, allow the reactor to cool and drain it as required. Use only the OEM-specified lamp, avoid touching the glass, inspect quartz sleeves and seals, and confirm lamp-current and UV-intensity readings after installation.
Maintenance Tips Record operating hours and replace lamps at the OEM-defined service interval or when UV output is inadequate. Clean quartz sleeves, check automatic wiping systems, inspect O-rings and electrical connectors, and verify UV sensor calibration.
Safety Notes UV-C radiation can injure eyes and skin, and lamps may remain hot after shutdown. Never energize a lamp outside its closed reactor. Apply lockout/tagout, depressurize the reactor, wear suitable PPE and handle mercury-containing lamps according to applicable hazardous-waste rules.
