Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Hatch-cover weathertightness is governed by the International Convention on Load Lines, SOLAS requirements where applicable, and relevant IACS unified requirements and class rules. Seal acceptance is normally part of the approved hatch-cover system rather than a standalone certification.
Class Approval Hatch-cover sealing arrangements may be reviewed as part of the complete hatch-cover system by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, ClassNK, RINA or other vessel class societies. Approval and survey requirements depend on the ship and cover design.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Confirm the original profile, dimensions and material before ordering. Clean and inspect the retaining channel, remove corrosion, use the approved adhesive or fastening method, and avoid stretching the seal. Join corners and ends according to the hatch-cover manufacturer's procedure, then verify uniform compression.
Maintenance Tips Inspect seals for cuts, hardening, permanent compression, loose joints and paint contamination. Keep sealing surfaces and drain channels clean. Check landing pads, cleats and cover alignment, and perform chalk, hose or approved ultrasonic tightness testing at scheduled surveys.
Safety Notes Secure and isolate hatch-cover operating systems before inspection or replacement. Follow enclosed-space and working-at-height procedures where applicable. Never work beneath suspended hatch-cover panels, and use compatible adhesives with suitable ventilation and personal protective equipment.
