Fire Axes - Safety and Protection

A marine fire axe is a hand-operated emergency tool used by shipboard fire parties for breaking doors, partitions, panels, and light obstructions during firefighting or rescue. It normally has a forged steel head and an insulated or non-conductive handle.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Fire Axes for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification SOLAS Chapter II-2 and the IMO FSS Code address fire-fighter equipment and shipboard fire safety. Individual hand axes are not generally covered by a unique international product certification; purchaser specifications and flag-state requirements apply.
Class Approval Individual fire axes normally do not require separate DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, BV, or ClassNK type approval. Their carriage and acceptance may be verified as part of the vessel's approved fire-control plan and statutory safety equipment.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Mount securely in an accessible, clearly marked location within the fire station, fire control locker, or designated emergency equipment locker. Keep the cutting edge protected without restricting rapid removal.
Maintenance Tips Inspect periodically for corrosion, damaged edges, loose heads, cracked handles, and deteriorated insulation. Clean and dry after use, lightly protect steel surfaces against corrosion, and replace defective components or the complete axe.
Safety Notes Use only by trained personnel with appropriate firefighting PPE. Maintain a safe swing area, keep the cutting edge covered during storage, and do not use a damaged or electrically unsafe axe near energized equipment.
