Heat Detectors - Safety and Protection

Marine heat detectors are fixed-temperature or rate-of-rise fire detectors used in accommodation, machinery, service and cargo spaces where smoke detectors may be unsuitable. They provide an alarm signal to the vessel’s fire detection and alarm system.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Heat Detectors for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Commonly manufactured and tested to EN 54-5 for point-type heat detectors. Marine variants may also carry approvals under IMO/SOLAS fire safety requirements and applicable MED, IEC 60092 or IEC 60533 requirements. Certification is model- and installation-specific.
Class Approval Marine versions may be type-approved by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, RINA or ClassNK. Approval depends on the exact detector, base, system configuration and vessel application.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Install with the manufacturer-approved marine base and wiring arrangement. Position detectors according to the vessel's approved fire control plan, detector spacing requirements and environmental limitations. Verify loop polarity, addressing and alarm compatibility before commissioning.
Maintenance Tips Inspect periodically for contamination, corrosion, loose mounting and damaged cables. Test using approved heat-detector test equipment and record results in the vessel's fire safety maintenance log. Replace detectors that fail testing or exceed the manufacturer's service guidance.
Safety Notes Isolate or place the relevant fire alarm zone in test mode before testing or removal. Do not use open flames for testing. Confirm that the detector temperature rating is suitable for the space and does not compromise required fire detection coverage.
