Fire Hooks - Safety and Protection

Fire hooks are manually operated firefighting tools used aboard ships to pull, pry, open, or dismantle lightweight structures and insulation during fire response. They are typically supplied as pike poles, roof hooks, or pry-hook tools with steel heads and insulated or nonconductive handles.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Fire Hooks for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification No universally applicable SOLAS or IMO product certification is normally required for a manual fire hook. Shipboard selection should follow the vessel's approved fire-control plan, flag-state requirements, and applicable company or port fire-equipment procedures.
Class Approval Manual fire hooks generally do not have separate DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, or ClassNK type approval. Any vessel-specific acceptance is normally governed by the flag administration, owner, or classification survey requirements.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes No permanent installation is required. Store the fire hook in an approved, clearly marked, readily accessible firefighting equipment locker or station, secured against movement while the vessel is underway.
Maintenance Tips Inspect the hook, welds, locking joints, handle, and insulation regularly. Remove corrosion, keep the metal head clean, and replace the tool if bent, cracked, loose, or electrically compromised.
Safety Notes Use suitable firefighting PPE and maintain a safe escape route. Treat the tool as electrically conductive unless specifically rated otherwise. Check for energized equipment, pressurized systems, structural instability, and hidden heat before pulling or prying.
