Flame Detectors - Safety and Protection

Marine flame detectors identify fires by sensing ultraviolet, infrared, multispectrum infrared, or visible flame signatures. They are used in engine rooms, fuel-handling areas, offshore modules, cargo spaces, and other hazardous locations as part of fixed fire detection and alarm systems.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Flame Detectors for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Applicable requirements may include IEC 61508 for functional safety, IEC 60079 for explosive atmospheres, IEC 60533 for marine electromagnetic compatibility, and EN 54-10 where applicable. Certification depends on the exact detector configuration and installation.
Class Approval Marine type approval is product- and configuration-specific. Selected versions may be approved by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, or ClassNK. Verify the current certificate for the vessel flag, hazardous-area classification, and installation location.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Install with an unobstructed view of the protected hazard, observing the manufacturer's field-of-view, detection-distance, mounting-angle, and environmental limits. Use approved cable glands, barriers, and wiring for the hazardous area. Connect to the vessel fire detection or safety system and perform commissioning tests.
Maintenance Tips Keep the optical window clean and free from salt, oil, paint, and condensation. Inspect alignment, cable glands, enclosure integrity, status indications, and alarm interfaces. Perform manufacturer-recommended functional tests, sensitivity checks, and periodic calibration or proof testing.
Safety Notes Isolate or inhibit connected fire suppression and alarm functions before testing where required by the vessel's procedures. Use only certified equipment and accessories in hazardous areas. Do not rely on the detector as a substitute for the complete fire detection, alarm, and suppression system.
