Goggles - Safety and Protection

Marine safety goggles protect crew members’ eyes from impact, dust, chemical splashes, spray, and airborne particles during shipboard operations. They are commonly used in engine rooms, workshops, cargo areas, and ship repair activities.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Common requirements include EN 166 for personal eye protection, ANSI/ISEA Z87.1 for industrial eye and face protection, and applicable EN 170 or EN 172 markings for ultraviolet or solar protection. Verify the marking on the supplied product.
Class Approval Marine safety goggles are generally PPE items and are not normally subject to separate classification-society approval. Vessel operators should verify flag-state, company, and safety-management-system requirements.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Select the correct lens and protection rating for the task. Adjust the strap to provide a secure, comfortable seal without obstructing vision. Use with other required PPE such as helmets, gloves, or face shields.
Maintenance Tips Inspect lenses, seals, frame, and strap before each use. Clean with clean water and mild detergent or the manufacturer’s approved cleaner. Do not use abrasive materials or solvents. Replace goggles when scratched, cracked, deformed, or contaminated.
Safety Notes Use only goggles with appropriate impact and chemical-splash markings for the work. Goggles do not replace a face shield where full-face protection is required. Do not use damaged or heavily scratched lenses, and follow the manufacturer’s chemical compatibility instructions.
