Dock Fenders - Shipyard and Dry Dock Equipment

Dock fenders are resilient protective systems installed on dry-dock walls, quay edges, dock gates, and shipyard structures. They absorb berthing, positioning, and contact energy while reducing hull and structure damage during vessel docking operations.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Dock Fenders for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification No single universal certification applies to all dock fenders. Design and material requirements are normally specified by the project owner, consultant, manufacturer, and applicable port or shipyard standards. PIANC fender design guidance may be used; ISO 17357 applies specifically to pneumatic rubber fenders.
Class Approval Dock fenders are generally not class-approved as standalone equipment. DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, and ClassNK may review the design, attachment, and supporting structure when required by the dry-dock or shipyard project.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Verify contact loads, vessel hull geometry, tidal or dock movement, clearance, and fixing arrangement before installation. Install on a structurally adequate, aligned surface using approved bolts, backing plates, brackets, or embedded anchors. Follow the manufacturer's torque and splice instructions.
Maintenance Tips Inspect regularly for tearing, cracking, abrasion, permanent deformation, loose fasteners, corrosion, and excessive wear. Check UHMW-PE sliding faces for grooving and replace damaged sections or bolts promptly.
Safety Notes Confirm the fender capacity and reaction force are suitable for the vessel and dock structure. Keep personnel clear of pinch points during docking and fender compression. Use rated lifting equipment and isolate dock movement or vessel operations during replacement work.
