Keel Blocks - Shipyard and Dry Dock Equipment

Keel blocks are load-bearing supports installed along a vessel’s centerline in dry docks, shipyards, and building docks. They support the keel during docking, construction, inspection, repair, and maintenance operations.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Keel Blocks for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification No single universal product certification applies to all keel blocks. Design, load capacity, arrangement, and inspection are normally controlled by shipyard or dry-dock procedures, approved docking plans, and applicable classification requirements.
Class Approval Keel blocks are generally not individually type-approved. Docking arrangements and hull support conditions may be reviewed or accepted by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, ClassNK, or another applicable classification society.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Install on a clean, level, load-bearing dock floor in accordance with the vessel-specific docking plan. Verify keel line, spacing, elevations, load distribution, and clearance from sea chests, appendages, bilge keels, and hull fittings before loading the vessel.
Maintenance Tips Inspect before and after each docking for crushing, splitting, settlement, cracking, deformation, loose components, and corrosion. Replace damaged timber or defective steel and periodically verify dimensions, alignment, and rated load capacity.
Safety Notes Use only within the approved load capacity and docking arrangement. Keep personnel clear during vessel movement and load transfer. Never modify block positions under load, and use qualified dock personnel with suitable lifting, jacking, and securing procedures.
