Belt Tensioners - Engine Room Consumables and Spares

Belt tensioners maintain the correct tension in engine-driven belts used on marine diesel engines, generators, pumps, compressors, fans and alternators. They may be automatic spring-loaded units or manually adjustable idler assemblies.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Belt Tensioners for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Selection should follow the engine or equipment manufacturer's specification and the applicable belt-drive requirements. ISO 4184 and ISO 1081 may be relevant to belt dimensions and terminology; certification is normally product- and equipment-specific.
Class Approval Belt tensioners are generally accepted as components of approved engine or machinery systems rather than independently class-approved items. DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas and ClassNK requirements may apply when installed in classed machinery.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Confirm the engine model, belt routing, pulley profile, rotation direction and tensioner part number. Install on clean mounting surfaces, use the specified fastener torque, align all pulleys, and set tension according to the engine manufacturer's instructions.
Maintenance Tips Inspect belt tension, alignment, pulley wear, bearing noise, corrosion and spring movement during planned maintenance. Replace the tensioner if the bearing is rough, the pulley is damaged, the arm binds, or the spring has lost tension.
Safety Notes Isolate and lock out the engine before installation or inspection. Never work near a rotating belt drive. Allow hot machinery to cool, keep hands and clothing clear, and use only the specified replacement belt and tensioner.
