Metal Gaskets - Engine Room Consumables and Spares

Metal gaskets are metallic sealing elements used on marine engines, exhaust systems, pressure piping, heat exchangers, valves and pumps. Common designs include spiral-wound, ring-type joint, corrugated and metal-jacketed gaskets, selected according to pressure, temperature, media and flange standard.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Metal Gaskets for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Common reference standards include ASME B16.20 for metallic gaskets, ASME B16.5 and B16.47 for compatible flanges, EN 1514-2 for spiral-wound gaskets, EN 1514-6 for jacketed gaskets, and API 6A/API 17D for applicable ring-type pressure equipment.
Class Approval Metal gaskets are generally approved through the associated piping, machinery or pressure-system design rather than as universally type-approved standalone items. Acceptance may involve DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas or ClassNK according to vessel rules and service requirements.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Verify gasket type, dimensions, pressure class, temperature rating and material compatibility against the maker's drawing and flange standard. Clean and inspect flange faces, use a new gasket, align the joint, and tighten bolts in the specified cross-pattern and sequence using calibrated tools. Do not reuse compressed metal gaskets.
Maintenance Tips Inspect for leakage, corrosion, erosion and thermal damage during planned maintenance. Replace gaskets whenever the joint is opened or when permanent deformation, cracking or loss of winding integrity is found. Check flange flatness, bolt condition and tightening records.
Safety Notes Isolate, depressurize, drain and cool equipment before opening a gasketed joint. Treat fuel, steam, exhaust gas, chemical and seawater systems as hazardous. Use specified materials and tightening loads; never compensate for incorrect gasket dimensions by excessive bolt torque.
