Timing Belts - Engine Room Consumables and Spares

Toothed timing belts are positive-drive power-transmission components used in marine auxiliary engines, diesel generator sets, pumps, fans, compressors and automation equipment. They synchronize shafts without lubrication and are supplied in rubber or polyurethane constructions with matched toothed pulleys.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Timing Belts for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Timing belts are commonly dimensioned and classified under ISO 13050 and related manufacturer specifications. Belt tooth profile, pitch, width, length, temperature range and tensile-cord construction must match the equipment maker's requirements. No universal marine certification applies to all timing belts.
Class Approval Timing belts are generally not individually type-approved by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, BV or ClassNK. Class acceptance may apply to the complete machinery system and requires installation in accordance with the approved equipment design and manufacturer documentation.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Verify belt part number, pitch, tooth profile, length and width against the equipment manual. Inspect pulleys, align shafts, install without levering, and set tension using the manufacturer's specified method. Do not mix belts from different constructions in a matched drive.
Maintenance Tips Keep belts clean, dry and free from oil, fuel and coolant contamination. Inspect periodically for cracking, tooth wear, fraying, glazing and abnormal tension. Check pulley alignment and tension, and replace belts at the manufacturer's recommended interval or when damage is found.
Safety Notes Isolate and lock out the prime mover before inspection or replacement. Prevent accidental starting and wait for all rotating parts to stop. Use guards during operation, keep hands and clothing clear, and do not use solvents or tools that can damage the belt.
