Spiral Wound Gaskets - Engine Room Consumables and Spares

Spiral wound gaskets are semi-metallic sealing components used on flanged pipework, valves, heat exchangers, boilers, and marine engines. They combine a formed metal winding with a soft filler to provide reliable sealing under pressure, temperature, vibration, and thermal cycling.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Spiral Wound Gaskets for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification ASME B16.20 covers metallic and spiral-wound gaskets for flanges. EN 1514-2 covers spiral-wound gaskets for PN-designated flanges. Dimensions may also follow ASME B16.5, ASME B16.47, or EN 1092-1. Material selection should comply with the manufacturer's documentation and service requirements.
Class Approval Spiral wound gaskets generally do not have universal classification-society approval. DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, BV, and ClassNK may accept them when specified in approved piping or machinery designs and supported by manufacturer certificates, material certificates, and applicable type or project approval.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Verify flange size, pressure class, facing, winding material, filler, and service compatibility. Clean and inspect flange faces, use a new gasket, center it correctly, and tighten bolts in a documented cross-pattern using the specified torque or tension. Do not reuse or apply sealant unless approved by the manufacturer.
Maintenance Tips Inspect for leakage, corrosion, flange distortion, and loose bolting during planned maintenance. Replace the gasket whenever the joint is opened. Investigate repeated leakage for alignment, surface finish, bolt loading, vibration, or incorrect gasket selection.
Safety Notes Isolate, depressurize, drain, cool, and gas-free the system before opening a flanged joint. Confirm absence of hazardous fluids and pressure. Wear appropriate PPE and follow the vessel's permit-to-work and lockout/tagout procedures.
