Paper Gaskets - Engine Room Consumables and Spares

Paper gaskets are soft, compressible sealing elements used in marine engine-room equipment and auxiliary systems. They are commonly manufactured from cellulose, aramid fiber, graphite, or other fiber-based sheet materials selected for compatibility with oils, fuels, water, steam, and cooling fluids.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Paper Gaskets for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Applicable requirements may include ASME B16.21 for nonmetallic flat gaskets, EN 1514-1 for flanged connections, ASTM F104 for gasket material classification, and manufacturer material specifications. The applicable standard depends on service and flange design.
Class Approval Individual paper gaskets are not normally separately class-approved. Where required, material and installation may be accepted under the vessel's approved machinery, piping, or fire-safety arrangement by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, or ClassNK.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Confirm gasket material, dimensions, thickness, and fluid compatibility before installation. Clean and inspect flange faces, align the joint without forcing it, install the gasket dry unless the manufacturer specifies otherwise, and tighten bolts in a calibrated cross-pattern to the approved torque.
Maintenance Tips Inspect for leakage, compression damage, swelling, cracking, hardening, or extrusion during planned maintenance. Replace gaskets after dismantling critical joints and never reuse a permanently compressed or damaged gasket. Store flat in a cool, dry place away from oil, heat, and sunlight.
Safety Notes Isolate, depressurize, drain, and cool the system before opening any joint. Use the correct gasket grade for the fluid, temperature, and pressure. Do not use unsuitable paper materials on high-temperature, high-pressure, or fire-critical services.
