Compressor Pistons - Auxiliary Machinery and Engine Room

Compressor pistons are reciprocating components used in marine starting-air, service-air, and control-air compressors. They compress air within the cylinder and are normally supplied with piston rings, gudgeon pin, and related sealing parts matched to the compressor model.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Compressor Pistons for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Pistons must conform to the compressor manufacturer's drawings, material requirements, tolerances, and overhaul limits. Complete compressor performance may be tested according to ISO 1217. SOLAS requirements apply to ship starting-air arrangements where applicable.
Class Approval Individual replacement pistons are generally accepted as OEM or class-accepted spare parts rather than separately type-approved products. The complete compressor and starting-air installation may require approval by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, or ClassNK.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Confirm compressor model, stage, piston diameter, ring-groove dimensions, pin size, material, and OEM part number. Check cylinder condition and clearances, install rings in the correct orientation with staggered gaps, lubricate as specified, and tighten connecting-rod fasteners to OEM torque.
Maintenance Tips Inspect the piston crown, skirt, ring grooves, gudgeon pin, and rings for scoring, cracks, carbon deposits, wear, and overheating. Measure piston-to-cylinder and ring clearances against OEM limits, maintain correct lubrication, and replace worn rings or pistons during scheduled overhaul.
Safety Notes Isolate electrical power, depressurize the compressor and receivers, drain cooling water where applicable, and apply lockout/tagout before dismantling. Use approved lifting methods, replace locking devices and gaskets, rotate the compressor manually after assembly, and conduct a controlled leak and operational test.
