Expansion Valves - Auxiliary Machinery and Engine Room
Thermostatic expansion valves meter liquid refrigerant into marine evaporators while maintaining the required superheat. They are used in shipboard refrigeration, provision rooms, air-conditioning plants and refrigerated cargo systems.
ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Expansion Valves for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval
Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.
| Applicable Standards & Certification | Applicable valves and refrigeration installations may be manufactured or selected in accordance with ISO 5149, EN 378 and relevant pressure-equipment requirements such as the EU Pressure Equipment Directive. Compliance depends on valve model, refrigerant, pressure rating and vessel jurisdiction. |
|---|---|
| Class Approval | Marine acceptance is model- and project-specific. Selected valves or complete refrigeration systems may be approved or accepted by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas or ClassNK when supplied with the required material, pressure-test and manufacturer documentation. |
Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information
| Installation Notes | Select the valve by refrigerant, evaporator capacity, pressure drop and temperature range. Install in the correct flow direction, mount the sensing bulb firmly on a clean horizontal suction line, insulate it where required, and connect external equalization downstream of the bulb. |
|---|---|
| Maintenance Tips | Inspect for refrigerant leakage, frost, blocked strainers, loose bulb mounting and unstable superheat. Clean or replace the strainer and orifice as specified by the manufacturer. Confirm refrigerant charge and operating pressures before adjusting superheat. |
| Safety Notes | Isolate, recover and depressurize the refrigerant before servicing. Use refrigerant-compatible PPE and leak-detection equipment. Avoid venting refrigerant, protect the valve from brazing heat, and follow special toxicity controls when working with ammonia. |
