Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification No universal standalone valve-gear certification applies. Components must conform to the engine manufacturer's drawings, material specifications, tolerances and service instructions. The complete engine may be designed and tested under ISO 3046 and applicable flag-state requirements.
Class Approval Valve gear is normally accepted as part of the engine's type approval or class survey scope. Approval may be provided by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas or ClassNK, depending on the engine, vessel and replacement-part documentation.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Confirm the engine model, serial number and component part number. Install with correct timing marks, fastener torque, lubrication and cold or hot valve clearance specified by the OEM. Verify free movement before starting.
Maintenance Tips Inspect rocker arms, rollers, bushes, valve bridges, springs and cam surfaces for wear or cracking. Check lubrication flow and valve clearance at OEM intervals, and record clearance trends to identify valve-seat recession or component wear.
Safety Notes Stop and isolate the engine, engage turning-gear interlocks and prevent automatic starting. Release spring loads only with approved tools. Keep clear of moving rocker gear and rotate the engine only under controlled conditions.
